Supagas has proudly served Australians for over 50 years, growing from a small local supplier into one of the nation’s most trusted gas companies.
Founded in 1968 as Australian Forklifts in Moorabbin, Melbourne, the business initially focused on forklift gas supply. By 1985, the name changed to Supagas Holdings Pty Ltd, reflecting a broader commitment to the gas industry. Expansion soon followed, with a major industrial gas plant built in Dandenong that introduced helium and CO₂ filling facilities, plus cylinder testing and refurbishment capabilities.
The 1990s saw significant growth. In 1997, Supagas NSW and QLD (Renegade Gas Pty Ltd) was established in Wetherill Park. What began with forklift gas soon expanded into industrial, medical, and specialty gases, leading to branches across NSW, ACT, and QLD.
A milestone came when Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) - the world’s 4th largest gas supplier - acquired both Renegade Gas and Supagas Holdings. This integration made Supagas a truly national company, with operations spanning all of Australia.
In 2020, TNSC transitioned to a holding company structure and became Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (NSHD). Today, Supagas continues to combine the resources of a global network with the personal service of a local partner.
